This is the Digital Story I made for EDTC 621. The goal was to come up with a unit for students that would incorporate the requirement for students to create a Digital Story. Such a unit would help students develope and improve on many of the technology skills we are trying to target. A description of the unit will follow, then the sample, which I created, will be embedded and a link will be provided as well in case there is an issue with the display, then a list of resources used for the project.
Description
This unit will be for a high school geography class. Students will have to chose a country which they would like to present to the class. Students may choose a country they have visited before (which is preferred), or a simply a country they are interested in and would like to know more about. Any country or sovereign entity in the world is allowed.
Students will first produce a fact sheet which will introduce the class to the country. The location, cultural information, history, and other relevant data should be included in this fact sheet. Next, they must create a digital story. The presentation may contain images, video or a combination of both. Each digital story must have a narration for some portion of it. Background music is optional. Remember, copyrighted music cannot be used and all sources must be cited. Students will be instructed on software that can be used, such as Microsoft Photo Story and Movie Maker. Also, web sites which allow file hosting will be given to share the digital stories online. Students are encouraged to personalize their digital stories, and, if possible, use their own images from a destination they have been to. Each digital story should give some information from the fact sheet as well as give a visual tour of the country and attractions they may have.
